Would you like to learn to design beautiful fabric print designs?

The Textile Design Inspiration course is a short course designed to provide you with the basics you will require to discover your personal untapped inspiration from withtin. This course is suitable for any student who is looking forward to creating their portfolio or beginning a career in fashion design wishing to realise orginal design from concept to creation.

This course is also suitable for fashion designers who would like to design their own fabric prints, interior designer's who would like to design home furnishing fabrics, graphic designer's who would like to design fabric prints for fashion or interiors.

Students will begin creating their portfolio from lesson 1 and produce a fabric design of their own interpretation based on a design which will be given to each student to interpret. On completion of the course students will have a portfolio of semaples of their own textile design beginnings.

• Understanding of textiles
• Working with abstract objects
• Different printing methods - screenprinting, sublistatic printing, digital fabric printing, handpainting fabric etc.
• How to create repeat prints
• Creating colourways
• Creating motif repeats
• Developing unique print designs
• Looking at textiles of the past
• Influential textile designers
• Inspiration- Where and how do I find it?
• Pattern and textile guidelines for print
• Realisation of the conceptual vision
• Portfolio presentation
• Original handpainted design

On completion of the course students will have a basic understanding of how inspiration can be tapped from within. Students will learn that there are many ways of removing the creative block in designing their own original pieces including the design of fabric. Through this ability they will experience the satisfaction of producing a totally original concept. Each student will receive a reference folder with notes given throughout the course.

Course Duration

The course runs over 10 weeks with the first 8 weeks of classes running from 9.30am - 12.30pm and the final two full day workshops (9.30am - 4pm) for students to realise designs handpainted on fabric samples.
