Spec Drawing with fabric appliedA technical drawing (also know as a specification drawing, spec, trade drawing, working drawing, line drawing or flat) is used to clearly communicate garment design details to pattern makers and/or manufacturers.

With such a large percentage of garment production outsourced to manufacturers overseas, being able to produce correct technical drawings is a vital skill required to work in the fashion industry today.

Learn how to correctly draw garment design details so that you are able to communicate your designs effectively.

The course first covers how to draw trade drawings by hand

  • Using templates
  • Drawing collars
  • Drawing zippers and closures
  • Drawing gathers, pleats and ruffles
  • Drawing swimwear or lingere
  • Slits, buttons, closures, zippers
  • Drawing waistbands
  • Drawing jackets and sleeves
  • Introduction to technical drawing using Illustrator

  • Anyone interested in a career as a fashion designer
  • Graphic designers interested in working in the fashion industry
  • Fashion Designers who would like to improve their skills and create professional technical/specification drawings for their designs to assist with production.

After completion of this course students may like to continue their study with the ‘Illustrator & Photoshop for Fashion Design’ course, which focuses on producing technical drawings using Illustrator and design illustrations in Photoshop.

Certificate:

Students who successfully complete the course may be awarded a Statement of Attainment for the unit ‘LMTFD3004A: Draw a Trade Drawing for Fashion Design’ from the Nationally Recognised Textiles, Clothing & Footwear training package in Applied Fashion Design & Technology.

Course Duration:

10 lessons X 3hrs on Saturday’s. 9.30am - 12.30pm
Price: $850. $200 non-refundable deposit required to enrol, balance due one week prior to course commencement.
