pattern making classAIFD's pattern making short course has been designed to give students the skills to create patterns to a range of different styles to their own body measurements/fit. Students will learn how to create a 'block pattern' to their own measurements from a standard block size pattern.

If you are sick of using commercial sewing patterns and want to be able to make your own designs to fit you, then this course will teach you the basics of how to create your own patterns so you won't have to go hunting through the commercial pattern books again trying to find something that resembles the style you are after!

You will have the option to either make your patterns to either a standard block size or to your own block adjusted to fit yourself.

Students are required to have sewing ability prior to commencing this course (as sewing techniques and construction is not taught in this course) for students who have not sewn before it is recommended that they complete the Beginner Sewing Classes prior to undertaking the pattern making short course. Students will be required to toile the block patterns (sew a sample in a cheaper fabric such as calico), to check the fit and make adjustments to the patterns.

Pattern grading (sizing patterns up and down) is not covered in this course. If you would like a more advanced and in depth course in pattern making & grading - check out the 'Patternmaking Part Time Course'.
