Fast Track Fashion Design Course

fashion designThe AIFD Fast Track Fashion course is a short course designed to provide you with the basics you need to get out into the fashion industry as soon as possible. The Fast Track Fashion course is great for students who are looking at starting their own fashion label or interested in a career as a fashion designer.

By the end of the course students will have made 2-3 garments and will have completed a portfolio of designs (along with other activities/projects).

The course is comprised of 10 sewing lessons and 5 fashion workshops, to give students an overall understanding of what a career as a fashion designer involves.

Fashion Design ClassSewing Classes

Students learn sewing and garment construction over ten three hour classes and students make full garments for themselves from our own cardboard patterns. These lessons have been specifically put together for beginner sewers with little or no previous sewing experience.

Students will start off making a straight skirt which can either be made out of a black stable woven fabric of the student's choice or from calico provided by us. Students with sewing experience are able to work on more complex garments, please speak to the teacher prior to the course start date to arrange.

students workCourse Outcomes

By the end of the course students will have an understanding of how the fashion industry works and what is involved in a career as a fashion designer. Students will learn how a designer gets their designs from their head to a made up collection of garments sold in stores, including the buying and selling process and organising production of their range etc.

Each student will receive a reference folder filled with printed notes that will be a reference for them for the rest of their careers. At the end of the course students will receive a certificate of achievement for their course participation.

Required Equipment

Students will require some basic sewing equipment for completion of this course, such as:

  • Fabric scissors
  • Pins
  • Tape measure
  • Tailors chalk
  • Fabric for your second garment - do not purchase until you find out how much and what type of fabric is needed.

Course Duration

15 lessons X 3 hrs. (total 45 hours) Over 10 weeks. (5 days will be from 9.30 - 12.30 and 5 days will be from 9.30am - 4pm).

Price

$1500: $200 Non-refundable course deposit required to enrol. Balance due on course commencement. (a 5 week payment plan on direct debit is available on request - $25 admin fee applies).
