The fashion industry offers exciting and glamorous career paths. Fashion is forever changing and reinventing old looks to create new trends. The fashion design and styling distance course is aimed at aspiring fashion designers.
The course shows how designs can be created through a systematic process of research and development. We will take you through the process of finding inspiration, developing your creative side, drawing and illustrating, creating a portfolio of designs, working to a brief, understanding and evaluating a client, designing a cohesive collection, understanding the market – what sells, what styles work on different bodies.
We will show you how to plan and design a successful range, how to design flamboyant one off pieces, and a cohesive collection. You will be taken through every step from inspiration to the final garment, how to communicate your ideas from the illustration stage through to production and the finished garment.
The course includes instructional DVD’s that will show you how to draw the fashion figure, colour and render different fabrics. You will be able to practice while watching your teacher guide you through the process step by step as many times as you like.
You will learn about styling, the different types of stylists – editorial, show, make-over and commercial. How to create total looks for clients, photo-shoots and creating themes. You will learn how to conduct wardrobe and image consultations.
Through the course you will complete practical assignments, that will help you develop and apply your new design and styling skills. By completing these practical assignments, we are able to assess you on nationally recognised units of competency and students who successfully complete the course will receive a Statement of Attainment which will allow students to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) when applying for further study in Fashion Design.
