fashion schoolThe fashion industry is exciting, challenging and rewarding. Designing clothes is more than either having great ideas or drawing gorgeous dresses. Opportunities lie in the fashion industry in many areas other than just design. At AIFD we teach you not just how to design and create your fashion designs, but also every step of the process from creation to marketing to sales and so on, so that you will have the skills and abilities to work within many areas of the fashion industry.

The Australian Institute of Fashion Design (AIFD) is part of the Australian Institute of Creative Design (AICD) and offers a range of courses in various areas of the fashion industry students in classroom learning swimwear construction technique for swimwearincluding: fashion design, fashion illustration, drawing, fashion design and portfolio development, computer aided fashion design (CAD), fashion merchandising and marketing, fashion retailing, pattern making, sewing, garment construction and fashion styling.

In response to a demand for practically based, industry relevant training, AIFD offers a number of comprehensive training programs that will equip you for a new career in the fashion industry, including the Advanced Diploma of Applied Fashion Design & Technology (on offer full time) and the Advanced Diploma of Fashion & Textiles Merchandising.

student sitting at an industrial sewing machine, sewing components of a garmentStudents in year’s 11 and 12 at high school can complete the Certificate II in Applied Fashion Design & Technology course as part of the VET in Schools program. This will allow students to gain a qualification in fashion design while still at school and will give them unit credits towards the full time Advanced Diploma of Applied Fashion Design & Technology.

AIFD also offers a number of shorter courses for students who are still at school. There are also short courses available for people who are working full time who are wishing to change career, these courses are available on night and weekends. For those who cannot attend our courses face-to-face, then you may be interested in our distance courses - the Fashion Design & Styling Distance Course and the Fashion Business & Merchandising Distance Course.
